Mission Statement

The Finance Department handles all receivables, payables, revenues, expenses, licensing, tax collection, and any financial tasks on behalf of the City.

Purpose & Function

To ensure the businesses within the city limits of Princeton are licensed both with the state and city. We collect the business and occupation taxes from the businesses within the city limits of Princeton. The Finance Department handles all receivables, payables, revenues, expenses, licensing, tax collection, and any financial tasks on behalf of the City.

Department Services

The Finance Department staff is available to work with you to provide information on business licenses, registrations, tax and license regulations, garbage collection rate schedules, and various city services. We can provide assistance in establishing and operating your business in Princeton as well as information on incentives to encourage the growth of new business in the City.

Receivable Clerk, accepts payments for a variety of services provided by the municipality. Maintains record of payment received and supporting documentation.

The Court Clerk, monitors city court accounts and balances, coordinates payment for the associated fines and fees.
Tax Auditor, maintains record of B&O taxes, received and payable, as well as a variety of business licenses and accepts payments associated with each.

The Accounts Payable Clerk, provides assurance that merchants, vendors, and contractors that have provided goods and services to or on behalf of the city are compensated promptly and accurately.

Special Initiatives or Projects

The Finance Department is engaged in continuing to bring new technology to the city government of Princeton and provide for complete online transactions for city services.

Accountability

The Finance Dept. is audited annually by a state approved, independent auditing firm. The annual budget, as well as any modifications to the annual budget, are submitted to the State Auditor’s Office for review and approval. Monthly financial reports are provided, both to City Council and the general public. A copy of the annual budget, revenues and expenses, as well as a list of merchants, vendors, and contractors that have received payment from City Hall is published in the local newspaper annually.

We have both computer data and paper files to ensure that proper credit is given to the correct accounts with the correct amounts that where paid. We maintain extensive records, transaction documentation, and licenses.
